The instinct for design is inborn. To see in the mind what does not yet exist in reality has been the driving force of human development throughout time. Although everyone has this instinct, not everyone follows it and few know how to truly transform vision into reality. Instinct sparks the first idea, and tells you if an idea is interesting. Research needs to be undertaken, assumptions should be analysed before commencing on a project, and all possible solutions should be worked through. And yet, in the complexity and variety of all possibilities, only instinct can truly guide choice. The mind alternates between the necessity of wanting to rationalise on one side and of following instinct on the other, in order to reach a certain equilibrium. Design for me is to seek this equilibrium, providing solutions to contemporary problems while using the technology and the visual language available today, to create balance through design work.

L’istinto alla progettazione è innato. Vedere nella mente quello che ancora non c’è nella realtà è il motore dello sviluppo umano nei secoli. Tutti hanno questo istinto, non tutti lo seguono e pochi sanno trasformare davvero le visioni in realtà. E’ sempre l’istinto che formula la prima idea e suggerisce se un’idea è interessante. Si deve fare ricerca razionalmente, si devono analizzare i presupposti prima di cominciare un progetto, si devono vagliare diverse soluzioni ma solo l’istinto è in grado di suggerire, nella complessità e varietà delle possibili scelte, quale sia la migliore. La mente si alterna tra necessità di voler razionalizzare da una parte e seguire l’istinto dall’altra per raggiungere un certo equilibrio. Progettare è per me la ricerca di questo equilibrio, risolvendo le problematiche contemporanee con l’utilizzo delle tecnologie e dei linguaggi visivi di cui siamo a disposizione oggi, per creare un manufatto che sia equilibrato e senza tempo.
